One of the biggest fashion trends to emerge from our nation’s economic recession is the idea of making the most of what you’ve got. Not only is this an utterly no-cost endeavor, it also boosts creativity and confidence (who doesn’t feel great wearing a well put-together outfit that didn’t cost a thing?). I found the perfect example on Gwyneth Paltrow’s website, goop.com (see images below). She expertly puts together various ensembles using key pieces most of us already have in our wardrobe (sweater dress, flat knee-high boots, basic black dresses). Seeing her transform a LBD using nothing more than a satin bow tied around her waist inspired me to dig up some old fabric trimmings I had stashed away in my closet and work some magic on a few of my own shapeless shifts.
